The Allen-Bradley 1762-IF4 is a compact, high-performance analog input expansion module for the MicroLogix 1200, 1400, and 1100 controllers. It is designed to capture precise analog signals from field devices such as transmitters, sensors, and instrumentation, enabling accurate process control in a wide variety of industrial automation applications. Unlike digital I/O, which only detects ON/OFF states, analog modules allow controllers to monitor continuously varying process parameters like temperature, pressure, flow, or level.
Adding a 1762-IF4 module to your MicroLogix system dramatically increases the controller’s ability to perform closed-loop control, data acquisition, and process monitoring. This module offers flexibility for integrators and engineers who need reliable analog data without consuming excessive panel space.
The 1762-IF4 accepts four differential analog input channels, allowing a mix of voltage and current signals on a per-channel basis. This flexibility simplifies wiring and enables connection of a diverse range of devices, such as:
4-20 mA pressure transmitters
0-10 VDC position sensors
1-5 V flow sensors
OEM instrumentation with custom ranges
Each channel can be configured independently through software, minimizing the need for external signal conditioning hardware.
With 14-bit resolution, the module provides fine granularity in signal measurement, which is essential for applications like dosing, batching, or any process where small variations matter. The conversion accuracy and repeatability make it suitable for demanding environments such as food & beverage, chemical dosing, and water treatment.
The 1762-IF4 seamlessly mounts next to a MicroLogix base controller and other 1762 expansion modules on DIN rail or panel mount. It automatically communicates over the backplane without additional wiring, reducing installation time.
LED indicators on the front panel provide at-a-glance feedback for power, module status, and input channel health, allowing maintenance personnel to troubleshoot quickly.
Rather than upgrading to a larger controller, users can add this compact module to expand analog capabilities at a fraction of the cost, making it ideal for small to mid-sized control systems.

Shielding & Grounding: For best noise immunity, use shielded cables for analog inputs and follow grounding guidelines provided in Rockwell Automation’s user manual.
Scaling: Take advantage of controller programming tools (RSLogix 500/Studio 500) to scale raw counts into engineering units for easy interpretation.
Mixing Current & Voltage: Each channel is independently configurable, so you can mix current and voltage signals within the same module—useful for hybrid applications.
Load Considerations: Ensure that current loops can drive the 250 Ω internal resistor; most industrial transmitters are designed for this load.
Space Planning: Allow ventilation space on DIN rail since analog modules may dissipate heat during operation.
Water Treatment Plants: Monitoring tank levels, flow rates, pH probes, and dosing pump feedback.
HVAC & Building Automation: Reading temperature and pressure sensors for energy-efficient control.
Packaging & Filling Machines: Measuring weight signals from load cells (with external signal conditioning).
Agricultural Systems: Tracking soil moisture or nutrient flow for precision farming.
OEM Equipment: Ideal for machine builders who need scalable analog inputs without oversizing the PLC.
The Allen-Bradley 1762-IF4 offers a powerful combination of precision, flexibility, and compact design. It empowers machine designers and plant engineers to add high-quality analog data acquisition without over-complicating the control architecture. Whether you are modernizing an existing MicroLogix system or designing a new skid-mounted solution, this module delivers dependable results with minimal footprint.
